Listen & Learn: What language(s) do you teach? Why did you choose a career in teaching?
Vahram: I teach Eastern Armenian at Listen & Learn. I chose this career because I love sharing my knowledge and experience with other people.
Listen & Learn: Tell us about your teaching qualifications and history.
Vahram: I have a strong track record as a teacher. I taught English in conflict-affected and underprivileged areas of Colombia and Ecuador. I was also a History and Armenian teaching assistant at an Armenian school in Toronto, Canada. This article (written in Spanish) tells my story as a teacher in Manizales, Colombia: Read here. Listen & Learn: What attracted you to teach with Listen & Learn?
Vahram: First of all, I was very happy to hear that a student in Los Angeles wanted to learn Eastern Armenian. Teaching my mother tongue is an immense pleasure. Also, the teaching hours are very flexible.
Listen & Learn: What is your favorite thing about working with Listen & Learn?
Vahram: The most exciting thing is the chance to meet people of diverse backgrounds. Listen & Learn has truly expanded my cultural horizons.

Vahram: I look for motivation and friendship. If we can build that bridge together, then the student will make it through more smoothly, and the experience will be more meaningful for both of us.
Listen & Learn: What should students expect from you as their teacher?
Vahram: My students need to know that they can count on me as a friend and that I will always try new things to help them advance and make progress.
Listen & Learn: Describe your most memorable teaching experience with Listen & Learn.
Vahram: I’ve just gotten started a few months ago, but I have already gained an astonishing amount of experience. My student works ten times harder than I would have expected, which has been very inspiring.

Vahram: The Armenian language has a lot of letters, and to foreign ears, some of them sound the same. To a native speaker, however, they are very different from each other. It always makes me smile when I see my student’s puzzled face as I point out these subtle differences.
