GlauciaLanguage: Portuguese
Years of experience: 10“When I am teaching I am also learning, as students ask certain questions and think with a different perspective – one that I had not thought of before”
Listen & Learn: Please tell us a little about what you teach, and why you started?
Glaucia: I am originally from Brazil but I’m currently living in Canada. Mariana, from Listen & Learn, contacted me offering me a private Portuguese teaching position, as I’m a native speaker.
Listen & Learn: Where did you study, how long have you been teaching, and what age groups do you teach?
Glaucia: I am still a student myself, studying a PhD here in Canada. I have been teaching Portuguese for 6 months but teaching in general for over 4 years, and my current student is an adult learner in his 50s.
Listen & Learn: What do you think a student should bring in to the lesson?
Glaucia: They should be prepared to learn, and take notes. And they should always bring motivation to learn.
Listen & Learn: What do you think is important for the teacher to bring to the lesson?
Glaucia: Teachers should be motivated also! And of course, bring some practical things like exercises and games for students to work from.
Listen & Learn: What do you like most about teaching?'
Glaucia: What I like most about teaching is meeting new people and transferring my knowledge to them. In addition, when I am teaching I am also learning, as students ask certain questions and think with a different perspective – one that I had not thought of before.
Listen & Learn: What are three words that describe you?
Glaucia: I would say I’m dedicated, helpful, and a hard worker.
