What is the Listen & Learn Travel Scholarship?
Our program aims to promote foreign language learning and immersive travel experiences by offering students an opportunity to explore Latin America and learn a new language. Selected candidates will be invited to take their trip during a non-academic period of the year (summer break, at the end of their degree program, after finishing high school, etc.). The travel itinerary is totally up to you, and we will contribute to enhance your budget with a $3,000 USD grant, received as 3 monthly payments of $1,000 USD. To help prepare for this adventure, selected candidates will receive 10 hours of free online Spanish or Portuguese lessons before his/her departure.
Who can apply to the Scholarship?
Any undergraduate or graduate student over 18 (at the time of travel) living in the U.S. or Canada, with at least an elementary level of Spanish or Portuguese. The selected candidate must organize their own travel itinerary, accommodation, and travel insurance for their trip to Latin America
How is the winning candidate selected?
A panel of 2 Spanish and 2 Portuguese experts (Listen & Learn native teachers) will choose the winning candidate from the 3 finalists with the most votes. The judges will base their decision on each applicant’s travel itinerary, profile, the difficulty level of the tongue-twister selected, and how well they performed it.

What do we expect in return?
We want to share your experience with our language learners and future scholarship candidates. We want you to get creative and tell us what you’ve lived and learned. If you like social media, or writing, filming or taking great photos, share them!
We expect to receive from you:
• 2x blog posts per month and 4x 1-minute videos per month telling us about your experiences, including fun facts related to the city/country you are visiting. Suggested word count for blog posts is between 800 and 1000 words;
• Your 10 best photographs of each new place you visit and the most enriching activities you enjoy;
• 10 audio/video recordings of interesting Spanish or Portuguese phrases you have learned (jokes, local expressions, etc.);
• A final summary of 800 words (minimum) of your trip, what you found enriching and memorable, and how it helped you improve your new language. This summary must be submitted no later than 30 days after you return home. We will also contact you for feedback (written and/or video) about the 10 hours of Spanish or Portuguese classes that we will give you before your trip.
