German Lessons in Houston

According to recent studies, German is the third most-taught language in Europe, surpassing Italian, Russian, and Spanish. This is because Germany’s economy is strong and learning the language can help people access new business and career opportunities. This is particularly true in the case of Houston, as there are dozens of German companies with headquarters in the city (especially in the fields of oil & gas and energy), including Liebherr, Rodl, and PSE Engineering. The city even hosts a German chamber of commerce to promote friendly business relations between Houston and Germany. Contact us at Listen & Learn today and we will prepare a personalized course for you to acquire German at your own pace and according to your timetable!

If you are lacking the motivation to learn the language, you should consider that words from German and English are often incredibly similar in their pronunciations, except for some consonant sounds. For example, the letter p in English words changes to an f in German in most cases. So, ship becomes “Schiff” and apple is “Apfel.”  As you can see, these words (and many like them) are close to being the same, both in terms of meaning and pronunciation. So, you’ll have a head start if you are an English speaker learning German in Houston.

Plus, with more than 2,000 German-speaking residents living in Houston, you’ll always have a chance to improve your listening and speaking skills in a real-life, friendly environment. For instance, you can join language exchange groups, like Houston German Speakers Meetup, where you’ll meet others who love the German language as much as you. What are you waiting for? Reach out to us at Listen & Learn and soon you’ll be watching an intriguing and gripping series, like Dark, in German without the need for any subtitles!

Taking one example, the song Eisbär describes a man who wants to become a polar bear and gives all the reasons while he’d like to be this wild animal. Curious, right?
